In your first session with an Awakening Coach, you explore the questionnaire that you completed. You are going to focus together on four really important questions:
• What is your deepest longing? What are your aspirations, hopes, and dreams? These are big-picture questions, and do not need to be practical at all. Your coach wants to know the ultimate driving purpose for your life, whether you actually get there or not. What would it take for your life to be a 100 out of 10? Would it mean making an Oscar-winning movie? Would it mean sitting for years, unmoving on a mountain top, hearing only the sound “Om” between your temples? Would it mean deeply, and without distraction, loving a partner with nothing held back? These are not things that you hope to accomplish during the coaching series. These are the most ambitious goals for your entire life.
• What gets in the way? Your coach will want to know the main habits that interfere with you living your deepest vision and purpose. These might be things such as procrastination, irritability, laziness, getting emotionally reactive at inappropriate moments….
• What are your strengths? It is important to take inventory on the places where you are already strong and reliable. For example, if you always keep your word, no matter what the circumstances, this would be regarded as a pre-existing strength. If you have been meditating for 40 years and it is not a challenge for you to go back to the mediation cushion every day, this would also be considered a strength. A daily practice of yoga, going to the gym, being really honest with the people around you, being kind and generous: these are all strengths that you may have developed through previous disciplines.
• What are the specific outcomes you want to get out of this coaching series? This will revisit the ground you covered in the initial interview, but now put into context with more refinement and clarity. Together with your coach, you are going to come up with eight or ten specific outcomes for what you want your life to look like at the end of the relationship. Your coach will do everything within their power to help you realize those outcomes.
